The Rolls Royce HQ Display is a live digital artwork that generates an ever changing abstract composition based on the diverse core industries of Rolls Royce.
The artwork perpetually reinvents and generates visual scenes that evoke Power, Industry, Data and Infrastructure and will never show exactly the same image twice. In addition to these ever evolving compositions, the system is also designed to respond to live local weather and sunlight data such that it is truly situated in the London headquarters. The light in the virtual artwork will mirror the physical path of the sun across the sky, this includes soft shadows on overcast days and switching to a day/night colour scheme at sunrise and sunset on every day of the year. The local wind speed also affects the activity of each generative composition; from the speed of abstract pistons and turbine blades to the turbulence of aerodynamic flow lines and the motion of clouds of official RR components. The gradient based colour schemes are inspired by the colourful heat and stress maps used when analysing industrial designs and forces.
The installation software was built using Unity.
