For the 'Think 2020' international conference; IBM teamed up with Imogen Heap and Field.io to create a unique audio visual identity centered around expression, creativity and technology. I was brought into this project in the early stages of development to research and interrogate how deep audio data analysis could inform the creative process between Field.io and Imogen Heap and also bridge the gap between music production and procedural motion design.
I developed an interactive desktop application that enabled new perspectives on the many sonic textures and layers used in Imogen Heaps sonic work. The application enabled 'exploded' views of the frequency content of every 'stem' of audio and featured several other analysis methods to extract characteristics of the sound closer to human perception than traditional spectrum analysis. The system enabled the export of this data into Houdini such that the time series data could be used by the talented animators and designers as Field.io to create detailed visualisations from the sound.
The full writeup of the project and process can be found at Field.io
The analysis software was built using C++ and OpenGL using the Cinder framework.
